The universal restroom sign chosen is didactic because it is very straightforward and does not require any abstract thinking to interpret its meaning. The rhetoric of this sign is that it shows a universal image of each gender with the associated words. It is very obvious that this sign is used to represent separate areas for men and women. The sign is a very antiquated perception of women. Not all women only wear dresses. The woman could be pictured wearing a skirt or pants. In order to change the women’s dress code, this sign should have color as well as womanly features such as long blonde hair, red lips, and a womanly figure.  In order to improve the men’s restroom sign there should be facial features incorporated as well as color. For example, the man on the men’s restroom sign could have facial hair and wear dark denim jeans accompanies by red shirt. These colorful additions would improve the aesthetic look of the sign.

The Keep Calm and Carry On sign is poetic because it could be interpreted many different ways. The rhetoric of this sign is that it was a WWI British campaigned that was designed to keep moral up with a straight forward and simple message. The original sign can be interpreted many different ways because of poetic license. Popular culture has modified the original campaign sign’s image as well as the wording to relate to different scenarios of our time. In order for the original campaign’s sign to be improved the letters should be outlined in black. This will create a barrier between the white and red, which will make the slogan stand even out more. Also, the red background should be a maroon color. The maroon is less overwhelming, but there will still be a major contrast. Lastly, the crown should be increased in size to add to aesthetic look of the sign.
